This is the conversation that started everything.
Before the roster. Before Springfield. Before the Hall of Fame. Before the world saw what Jamaica looks like when its children come home — there was a conversation between a father and his son.
"Do you want to play for Jamaica?"
Every son on this carousel said yes. Every father on this carousel said let's go.
This Father's Day, we wanted you to hear it directly from them — what it means to wear this flag together. What it means for a dad in Toronto, Montreal, Harlem, Brampton, Orlando, Chicago — to put his son on a plane to represent the country of his own father. What it means for a dad in Kingston, Mandeville, Montego Bay, May Pen, Trelawny — to watch his son line up next to cousins he's never met from cities he's never visited, all wearing the same green and gold.
This is why P.H.A.S.E.1 Academy exists.
We are not just building basketball players. We are building families. We are building the bridges between the island and the diaspora that were missing for a generation. We are building a Jamaica that doesn't have to export its talent to be recognized — a Jamaica that can be a global hub for basketball development on its own terms.
Six years ago, my mother asked me: *"What about home?"*
This weekend, twenty-three boys answered that question for me — six from Jamaica, seventeen from the diaspora, all representing Jamaica through P.H.A.S.E.1 Academy on Jamaica's only youth travel basketball team that brings local and diaspora players under one flag.
But they couldn't have answered it without their fathers.
To every dad who said yes to this — yes to the trip, yes to the jersey, yes to the trust, yes to your son becoming part of something bigger than any single tournament — thank you. You are the reason we exist.
To every dad watching this who has a son of Jamaican descent who plays — your conversation can start today. The door is open.
