The P.H.A.S.E. 1 Rising Stars Christmas Camp (U16), held from December 26–29 at Munro College, delivered four days of high-level development, competitive basketball, and meaningful growth for Jamaica’s emerging talent.
More than just a camp, Rising Stars is designed as a player development and evaluation environment, where athletes are challenged to learn the game the right way — through fundamentals, decision-making, effort, and teamwork.
A Development-First Environment
From the opening day, athletes were immersed in the Rising Stars development model, centered on:
S.A.T. (Spacing, Angles, Timing)
Read & React decision-making
Pace and control
Defensive responsibility and communication
Competitive habits and coachability
Each day featured a structured balance of:
Individual skill training
Athlete development (conditioning, movement, injury prevention)
Team concepts and situational play
Film sessions and basketball IQ discussions
The focus remained consistent: skills must translate at game speed.
Competitive Play & Game Action
As camp progressed, athletes were placed into teams and competed in structured practice games and tournament play. These games were used not only to determine results, but to evaluate:
Decision-making under pressure
Defensive engagement
Team play and communication
Ability to apply concepts learned in training
The level of competition rose daily, with players responding positively to coaching and showing clear improvement across the camp.
Awards & Recognition
At the conclusion of the camp, several athletes were recognized for their performance, growth, and impact.
🏆 Camp MVP
Hasani Nicholson – Point Guard | Ardenne High School
Hasani delivered a complete performance throughout the camp, standing out on both ends of the floor. He consistently controlled the pace, made strong decisions, defended with intensity, and led his team to the camp tournament championship. His ability to perform in drills, training sessions, and live competition set the standard for the group.
🥇 Additional Camp Awards
(Insert additional award winners here as applicable, such as:)
Most Improved Player - Dalhon Bell
Top Prospect Award - Tyler Feanny
Defensive Player of the Camp - Shaqueim Alexander
Sportsmanship Award - Raheem Lynch
Each award reflected not just statistics, but habits, attitude, and growth over the four days.
Growth Beyond the Scores
One of the most encouraging aspects of the U16 Rising Stars Camp was the collective growth shown by the athletes. Players left with:
A stronger understanding of how to play within a team
Improved basketball IQ
Better habits around training, recovery, and focus
Increased confidence competing in a demanding environment
Rising Stars continues to be a space where development is prioritized, and where young athletes are prepared for the next stage of their journey.
Looking Ahead
The Rising Stars pathway doesn’t end at camp. Athletes will continue to receive guidance, feedback, and opportunities through P.H.A.S.E. 1 Academy programs, leagues, and future events.
The U16 Rising Stars Christmas Camp once again reinforced what is possible when structure, teaching, and opportunity come together.
