For the first time, the island has a comprehensive, credible, and performance-based ranking system that reflects not just local play, but the full scope of Jamaican talent competing and developing both at home and on the international stage. This is more than a list, it is a statement about the growth, structure, and global trajectory of basketball in Jamaica.

A Ranking Built on Real Work
What separates these rankings is the integrity behind the evaluation process.
Over the past six years, P.H.A.S.E. 1 Academy has been deeply embedded in Jamaican basketball at every level, not as observers, but as builders, coaches, and organizers. These rankings are informed by firsthand experience through:
Elite local competitions like the Gold League and Platinum League
Development platforms such as Rising Stars Camps
International exposure through the JamRockerz AAU Showcase
Competition on the #1 Independent AAU Circuit in the U.S. — MADE Hoops
High school all-star games, training environments, and year-round evaluation
This is a system built on direct evaluation, not speculation — grounded in seeing players compete, grow, and perform in meaningful environments.
Leadership Rooted in Global Experience
At the center of this movement is Coach Wayne Dawkins, Director of P.H.A.S.E. 1 Academy a true pioneer in global basketball development.
From Toronto, Canada, to Phoenix, Arizona, to international work in Bujumbura, Burundi and Barbados, Coach Dawkins has spent decades building programs, training players, and creating pathways across continents. His return to Jamaica has sparked a transformation.
Over the past six years, his leadership has helped introduce and develop several firsts in Jamaican basketball, including:
A structured professional league model
AAU travel teams competing internationally
Indoor youth leagues
A growing youth club system
Elite international showcases and exposure events
This foundation is what makes the rankings credible — they are backed by years of intentional, high-level work.
A Strong Team Driving the Vision
This effort is also powered by key contributors who bring both experience and authenticity to the process:
Dave Black — Former Jamaican National Team player, Head Coach of Herbert Morrison Technical High School, and Co-Founder of P.H.A.S.E. 1 Academy Jamaica. His understanding of the local game and player development adds critical insight.
Mike Kirlew — Jamaican-born with deep basketball roots in Philadelphia, USA. Widely respected as one of the most dedicated youth trainers in Jamaica, his hands-on work developing players daily provides another layer of trusted evaluation.
Together, this leadership group ensures that the rankings reflect a true and balanced perspective of Jamaican talent.
More Than Rankings — A Platform for Opportunity
The purpose of the Top 30 Rankings goes beyond recognition.
It is about:
Creating exposure for Jamaican players
Establishing standards for development
Motivating athletes to improve and compete
Positioning players for opportunities at the next level
Jamaica has already begun to gain global attention at the Men’s National Team level. What we are now seeing is the emergence of a structured grassroots pipeline and these rankings help bring visibility to that foundation.
The Future is Already in Motion
Even as the 2025 rankings are released, the work continues.
With international travel already underway and events like the Easter Rising Stars Ranking Camp, players are actively competing to improve their standing and earn their place in the 2026 Top 30 Rankings.
And what’s coming next is even bigger.
Future rankings will expand to include:
Top International High School players with Jamaican roots
Jamaican College and University players
Local Jamaican Girls rankings
This is about building a complete ecosystem of recognition and opportunity across all levels of Jamaican basketball.

Jamaica to the World
The message is clear: Jamaica is no longer just participating, it is emerging, organizing, and competing globally.
The 2025 Jamaica Top 30 Player Rankings are a milestone moment, but they are also just the beginning.
There are greater opportunities ahead. Greater visibility. Greater impact.
And most importantly a generation of young athletes ready to rise.
